This past summer, Wedding Design Studio designed another fabulous wedding at Rowena's Inn on the River. This wedding was photographed by Stec Photography. The weather was perfect and the couple looked amazing. The staff were very friendly. We look forward to the upcoming weddings that we have booked at Rowena's this summer.

Terminal City Winter Wonderland

We created a soft winter themed wedding at Terminal City Club. Candlelight, crystals and a silver canopy set the tone! It was intimate and cozy for our wonderful bride & groom, Leane & Anson and of course, all their guests. A big thank you to Andrea and all the staff at Terminal City Club and Tala Florist for providing beautiful 'snowballs' of white carnations. It was also nice to see you Scott of Gary Robertson Music again. He sure knows how to get the party rocking!

Grouse Mountain Video Shoot

What a treat! Shaw Cable was doing a video shoot for the TV show The Wedding Belles up at Grouse Mountain today. Wedding Design Studio was invited to help out by setting up a table with a natural, winter theme to compliment the beautiful Grouse Mountain.

The sun was shining as we made our way up the tram in the morning. After set up we had time for a sleigh ride in the snow and sun. We also enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Grouse, "THANK YOU Jacqueline!!!"
After lunch, the energetic crew from Shaw Cable arrived and the shoot was done in record time. It was a great, great day!

Don't forget to consider Grouse Mountain for your wedding ceremony and reception in the winter time! Gorgeous!

Tips and Tricks for Brides Visiting a Wedding Show

Wedding Design Studio will be at the Westin Bayshore this Saturday and Sunday, January 7^th and 8^th, for the 33^rd Annual Wedding Fair. We are located on the top floor, right before the fashion show, as soon as you get off the escalator. Please stop by to say hello, we look forward to meeting you!

Some tips to make your day successful:

1. Wear comfortable shoes! And leave your winter coat in the car (or use the coat check) you will want your hands free to be able to focus on the show.

2. Print labels with your name, phone number, email address, and wedding date (size recommend by Wedding Fair 2012 - Avery 5160 - 30 per page or something compatible). Bring a least 5 sheets (150 labels). This will save you a ton of time at the show that can be used talking to knowledgeable vendors! These can be printed at the show, but there is always a long line.

3. Bring a day planner (or your phone) to book appointments with vendors you meet at the show.

4. Bring a note pad so you can make notes of your favorite vendors. You will meet hundreds of vendors, and receive cards/brochures from most of them. Make notes so you can remember which you would like to contact again or check out their website.

5. You will receive reusable bags at the show, but we recommend bringing two with you (different colors if possible). Give one to whoever you have brought to the show (fiancé, mother, friend or bridesmaids) for the vendor’s cards you are semi interested in, and another that you hold onto for the ones that really peaked your interest. When you get home it might be hard to remember which photographer you were interested in when you have 10 cards, but if you separate them when you meet them it will make it much easier. for an easier

6. Check the exhibitor list to plan your day, who would you really like to meet? This is a great opportunity to compare vendors in one location. Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions – these are wedding professionals.

7. Bring a camera. This is especially important if your fiancé is unable to attend. But please ask the vendor if you are allowed to take a photo of their booth first.

8. Have Fun!

Following the wedding show we recommend that you sort through your vendor material as soon as possible. If you take your time many of your preferred vendors might be booked. Remember that dates go very quickly, and many wedding professionals become completely booked within a few weeks following the show for prime dates.

Contemporary Wedding Swaneset

On November 6th, 2011, Wedding Design Studio, designed a beautiful, contemporary wedding at Swaneset Bay Resort, for Carol & Taylor.
The centerpieces were acrylic candelabras adorned with solid hot pink carnations, dove grey coloured vanity chair covers.

Creme de le Creme Show 2011

On November 6th, 2011, Wedding Design Studio attended the Creme de le Creme Show at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver. Soha put on a gorgeous show as always and it was great to see all of the lovely and excited Brides on Sunday.
Wedding Design Studio designed a table with a one of a kind birch centerpiece. The colours were pale peach, dove grey and apricot.

La Dolce Vita Gala || Charitable Event

Wedding Design Studio is pleased to announce that we will be partnering with the Thrive Alive Foundation by donating decor for their first annual gala! This gala will raise much needed funds for cancer patients who cannot afford proper treatment.

Thrive Alive Foundation is a charitable organization committed to providing resources and assistance to people in need for their cancer treatments not covered by government or healthcare plans. Totally unique in Canada, they are not part of any specific centre, agency or clinic, giving them the flexibility to support patient treatment anywhere in Canada. All funds raised from La Dolce Vita Gala will go directly towards launching our Thrive Support Program on January 1st and helping people in need.

Stephanie Klaus is the Co-Founder and Board Chair of Thrive Alive Foundation. She is also one of our 2012 brides!! Please join with Stephanie and Thrive Alive Foundation by attending this wonderful fundraising event! We hope to see you there!

Samara & Brock

In August 2011, Wedding Design Studio designed a gorgeous wedding for Samara & Brock on Samara's parent's property. Their ceremony took place on a platform, designed to fit over the hot tub which overlooked the infinity pool. This ceremony location featured a gorgeous view of the mountains and the Fraser River.

The colours that Samara chose were vintage gold and black. Three black chandeliers hung over the tuscany-style head-table, and various black chandelier hung throughout the ceremony tent. The ceremony platform was covered with black taffeta and vintage pillows were strewn around.

It was a pleasure working with Rob & Julia Campbell of Ameris Photography and Donna Wadsworth (aka: Head Hancho) of Savoury City Catering. Donna and her crew were very helpful throughout the day of the wedding setup, and they even fed us!!! Love you guys! Rob & Julia captured many wonderful photos: thank you for sharing these with us!

Samara & Brock, it was so fun working with your family. Everyone is so sweet and you were all so easy to work with. Best wishes to the two of you in your future together!

Bling Wedding Show

Kim and Joanne worked together to design an earthy and luscious aisleway in the Bowden Ballroom and a gorgeous table display in the Tudor Room. Bling was an incredible show to be in! Sunan & Yeu || Sneak Peek

This past weekend Wedding Design Studio designed another FABULOUS wedding at Hart House in Burnaby, British Columbia. We worked alongside Sonja, the talented coordinator at Hart House and Jeff Chang of Jeff Chang Photography. Please enjoy a few sneak peek photos that our designers took from their iPhones of this gorgeous wedding.

The aisleway was adorned with 150 cream roses worth of petals, creating an elegant zig-zag down either side. The cream fabric was used to create a bamboo chuppah, Monstera leaves and rich burgundy roses were attached to each aisleway chair.

This wedding was very royal vintage, which means that it is timeless. This will be a wedding to remember for years to come!

BIG NEWS!!! SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!! (The Cat’s Out Of the Bag!!!)

WEDDING DESIGN STUDIO is pleased and excited to announce that we are MOVING our studio warehouse in October of 2011! It has been a work in progress for quite some time, and we are SO excited that we can finally “let the cat out of the bag” about this move! Wedding Design Studio has been in business for over 20 years, and has constantly been growing and expanding. Kim & Andy (WDS owners) first ran the business out of their home, carting the décor (and their baby daughter) around in their station wagon and pickup truck. From there, Wedding Design Studio expanded to take up a full basement in a larger home. It wasn’t long before the décor business needed MORE space. In 2006, Wedding Design Studio moved into a 4,000 square foot studio warehouse in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. In the five years that the business has been operating out of this warehouse, we have designed over 100 weddings a year! This decorating business has grown beyond anything we could ever hope or dream for! In the years of business Wedding Design Studio has been featured in magazines, commercials, newspapers, and on countless media websites.

And NOW, we have designed and built our very own, CUSTOM, 5,000 square foot studio warehouse in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia. Earlier this year, Kim & Andy bought acreage property with a fabulous Tuscany-style home on it. Since the day they bought their beautiful home, they have designed and built a HUGE studio warehouse on this same property! The new studio warehouse is fabulous, and we cannot wait to move in this October!

Let us answer a few questions for you, regarding this move:

Are you still available to do weddings?

ABSOLUTELY! Our goal for this move is to allow our business to expand and grow! We will be gradually moving our inventory to the new studio warehouse during the month of September, so that we are fully ready for opening in October, 2011.

Are you open during the move?

OF COURSE! Keeping our new showroom open will be our first priority. We will continue to be open, as usual, by appointment only. We will be taking appointments for the years 2012, 2013 and beyond, as well as any last minute events in 2011.

On July 9th, Wedding Design Studio traveled to Westin Bear Mountain Resort on Vancouver Island. It was a wonderful trip and we loved designing the wedding for the beautiful couple, Natasha & Damon. The resort was GORGEOUS, cute little deer were running all over the mountain-side. Renee Aird of Aird Events was the wedding planner. She did a fabulous job, as always! The photographers for this wedding were Emmy & Aaron from E/A Photography. The photos looked so wonderful, and we're so excited to share them in today's blog posting.

Natasha's dress was custom made, as shown in the below photos. It was too gorgeous, we couldn't help but share a few photos of it on our blog.

Natasha & Damon's wedding looked stunning. The entire room was bathed in candelight and crystals! For this wedding, we think the photos can speak for themselves.

On July 29th, 2011, Wedding Design Studio designed a fresh and stylish wedding for Stephanie & Kiff at Hart House. The photographers were Union Photographers, and they did a fabulous job of capturing the fresh and vibrant wedding for these newlyweds.

Stephanie looked so beautiful on her wedding day!

Stephanie wore these custom cowboy boots under her wedding dress. These creative boots were detailed with bright purple flowers.

Stephanie & Kiff are so fresh and lovely, and Stephanie's bouquet matched the vibrancy of this young couple. The bouquet was created with bright orange mokara orchids and purple vanda orchids.

The decor was simple but yet bright and bold. The centerpieces were lit up at night by a bronzy-orange light box. Chandeliers hung from the center of the tent.

Congratulations to Stephanie & Kiff! We hope that your marriage is fabulous, and that you enjoy your life together along with your little boy!

Wedding Design Studio designed the wedding for the lovely Shelby & Kyle on July 23rd, 2011. The look was very soft vintage, including colors of soft peach and creams. Both the ceremony and reception took place at Shelby's parent's GORGEOUS property in Maple Ridge. We had the privilege of working alongside one of our many favorite photographers: Ameris Photography, as well as the ever-talented wedding planner, Renee of Aird Events. The day was gorgeous, and everything went perfectly. Please enjoy the following photos taken by Ameris:

Shelby looked stunning on her wedding day, as shown through this photograph.

The tent was designed by Wedding Design Studio, with vintage candelabras, filled with creamy white hydrangea and dripping with crystals. The tables were covered with cream brocade overlays. Keeping the vintage feel, we created small arrangements of soft flowers to surround these stunning candelabras.

A hedge of soft peach roses and creamy hydrangea adorned the head-table, along with splashes of candlelight.

This fabulous crystal chandelier was hung over the sign-in table.

The ceremony took place on the lawn and patio, in front of an antique wooden shed. The shed was adorned with trees and small decorative pails of purple hydrangea.

The shed created a perfect backdrop for nighttime photos. Wedding Design Studio used special lighting to create a beautiful backdrop.

Jolanta & Shane || Destination

Just a few weeks ago, we designed a wedding for Jolanta & Shane, who got married at the fabulous Galiano Inn & Spa. The wedding planner for this wedding was Renee Aird, who is always wonderful to work with. Joanne from Verde Flowers, worked with Kim from Wedding Design Studio to design all of the floral. We just received some beautiful photos from the couple's wedding photographer: Chris Boar, and we're so excited to be able to share them with you now!

Jolanta & Shane got married under a clear blue summer sky, at a stunning ceremony location that overlooked the water! We were in awe at how gorgeous the venue was!

Jolanta walked down an elegant carpet of rose petals, to meet her groom at the alter.

The sides of the aisle were lined with vintage patterned fabric, and large groupings of creamy hydrangea.

Jolanta & Shane got married under this decadent, flower-covered alter. The designers took the alter from a bare frame to an elegant floral masterpiece, using curly willow, bright roses, and green & white hydrangea.

The reception room was designed with simple but yet, impacting decor. Pale mauve and deep eggplant runners lined the tables, and large, bright floral centerpieces were placed along these runners.

This wedding was so much fun to design! The couple was a delight, the venue was STUNNING, the food was amazing, and the other vendors were great to work with!! A big thank-you to Chris Boar, Galiano Inn & Spa, Renee Aird, and everyone else who was involved with this wedding! And a big congrats to Jolanta & Shane. All the best to you two in your life together. :)

On July 23rd, Wedding Design Studio was privileged to design an outdoor wedding for Shelby & Kyle's wedding on her parent's gorgeous property in Maple Ridge. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and the bride looked radiant. We worked alongside Ameris Photography, and are excited to see the photos that they have taken. For now, we have some photos that our designers took while on site.

Shelby went for vintage, soft and elegant decor, focusing the colors on cream, peach, silver, white, pale green, and a few pops of hydrangea blue. It was a stunning combination!

The ceremony took place outside of Shelby's parent's vintage shed. We created an archway of curly willow for the couple to be married under. Hanging from the branches were small vintage pails, filled with deep blue/purple hydrangea. These tree archways created the perfect amount of definition for a backdrop.

Another unique feature that we added to this wedding was a stunning crystal chandelier, hanging from a tree over the sign-in table.

The table centerpieces were our new silver candelabras with hurricane glass vases, filled with hydrangea and topped with a votive candle. It was very vintage inspired! The overlays were a white on cream vintage brocade overlay, which added a great deal of soft elegance to the tables.

Congrats to Shelby & Kyle! We are so happy for both of you, and we are very excited to see the rest of your photos!

Introducing our NEW lounge furniture! We now have designer white leather cubes, and white leather benches! These are a beautiful compliment to weddings and events, especially events where a lounge area is created.

The benches and cubes are not limited to "lounge areas" but can also be used as feature seating for brides and grooms at ceremonies and reception, or for any other creative ideas. We are very excited to have added this new furniture to our inventory, and we cannot wait to use them at our events in the future! This past Sunday, we designed Sanj & Jen's wedding at Swaneset Bay Resort. We worked alongside Dolly from Surrey Flower Shop. Dolly is a fabulous florist! She designed all of the beautiful table arrangements. We are excitedly awaiting the photos that the photographer has taken. For now, we are going to feature some photos that our designers took on location.

The tables were draped with vintage brocade overlays, and had our specialty purple satin napkins and glass gold charger plates. The chairs were covered with eggplant chair wraps. We also provided the alternating height candles around the base of the centerpieces.

On either side of the bar, there were tall square vases, candles, and floral arrangements. This was placed beside one of the lounge rooms that we designed.

And now, introducing our NEW lounge furniture! We have specialty white leather cubes, as well as long, white leather benches. Wedding Design Studio is very excited to add this to our inventory!

Jolanta & Shane || Sneak Peek

This past weekend, a florist and several designers headed over to Galiano Inn & Spa on Galiano Island, BC for a destination wedding. The bride and her mother LOVED flowers, so the decor design of the wedding was completely focused on flowers.

Here are a few photos that our designer took. We are awaiting photos from the photographer, Chris Boar.

The ceremony took place outside, in a location that overlooked the water. The weather was perfect! A blanket of roses were spread across the entire aisle, creating a stunning walkway for the bride and bridal party.

The bride and groom got married under this archway. It was completely saturated in flowers, and really flowed with their "flower" theme.

The guests tables had a eggplant runner for the base, and were lined with long floral arrangements. They looked incredible!

This is a close-up of the flower arrangements that were made for the head-table. The colors were so gorgeous, and both the bride and her mom loved them.

We received this lovely email from the bride's mother, expressing her thanks:

Leighton & Carlin

Several months ago, we worked with Leighton and Carlin to create wedding decor that was unique to their personal style. The wedding took place at Rowena's Inn on the River. The wedding was captured by the amazing photographer, Mikaela Ruth. Take and moment to have a peek at the photos Mikaela provided from this beautiful wedding:

Carlin looked stunning on her wedding day! Here she is, with her bridesmaids:

Carlin's bouquet was composed of cream roses and peonies, created in a loose, garden dome. Light greenery was added as a collar around the bottom of the bouquet.

Her bridesmaids were given small bouquets of hydrangea, garden roses, lisianthus, wax flowers, and a few additional "garden-style" flowers. The handled was wrapped in a soft mauve fabric.

Most of the wedding festivities took place on the lawn. They had set-up several lawn games for the guests to enjoy.

The centerpieces were made in various sizes of vases and bottles, grouped together at the center of the guest tables and cocktail tables. The linens were creamy brocade and helped to compliment the soft simplicity of the wedding theme.

Bird cages were hung in groupings around the reception tent. Both inside and cascading out of the cages were willow branches, and flowers to match the decor. It helped to give some definition and layering to the surrounding of the tent.

Thanks again to Mikaela for providing us with these stunning photos! We hope to work with you again in the future, as you have been a delight to work alongside. Also, a huge congrats to Leighton and Carlin on your marriage! May your future together be amazing!

Several weeks ago, on June 25th, Wedding Design Studio had the pleasure of working with Heather & Steve for their wedding at Swaneset Bay Resort. The photography was done by David from Pedersson Storyteller Photography. The bride and groom also featured a photobooth by Photobooth Vancouver.

On the day of their wedding, the weather had a difficult time making up its mind. The final decision was to have the ceremony indoors, and it still ended up looking elegant and edgy, just like Heather. Just take a look at her shoes!!

The rest of the room decor matched Heather's edgy and fun style. The tables were covered in overlays of white with velvet black vine designs. The chairs had sexy and sleek black vanity chair covers. The centerpieces were flashy silver branches with bright purple orchids displayed throughout the branches. We placed a light under each centerpiece to give it an extra pop of color.

We enjoyed creating a sexy lounge near the bar. We made a small room with walls of black velvet fabric, and featured a black chandelier in the center of this room. Inside the lounge were two contemporary white loveseats, a long black coffee table, and black and mauve throw pillows to match the rest of the room decor.

The bouquet was a dome of fresh roses with crystal pins throughout. It matched Heather's love for sparkle and glam. Steve had a matching rose boutonniere on the lapel of his jacket.

Swaneset has stunning picture windows. The bride and groom had their dance floor in front of those windows. To frame these big windows, we hung panels of sheer fabrics from each of the three center windows. In front of the center window, we also created a window of sheer fabric with a black chandelier hanging down. It gave a great backdrop for photos and dancing.

Wedding Design Studio loved working with Heather & Steve. They both have a unique style, and we really enjoyed creating a wedding that matched their special style. Congratulations, Heather & Steve, on your wedding. Best wishes to the two of you on your future together.

Destination Wedding Weekend

This past weekend, Wedding Design Studio traveled to Victoria, BC, and set-up decor for two weddings. The first wedding was a rental of crystal candelabras for clients who were getting married at the Hatley Castle. Our second wedding was a stunning reception set-up at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort. For this second wedding, we had the privilege of working with wedding planner, Renee Aird, as well as the coordinator at the Westin, Helena Price. The photographers for the Bear Mountain wedding were Emmy & Aaron of EA Photography.

While we wait to see the rest of the photos from Bear Mountain Resort, we would like to share a sneak peak of what the reception room looked like. The below photo features the centerpieces, which were fresh, tall trees brimming with hanging candles, and real crystal strands. Around the tree centerpieces were alternating height cylinder vases, with black crushed rock and floating candles. Each of the chairs had black fitted overs on them and a matching sash with a crystal buckle attached to the back. The backdrop behind the head-table was created with white sheer fabric and panels of silver platinum taffeta. Bright lights were used to up-light the fabric, giving more color and glow behind the head-table. Directly behind the bride and groom's place settings were two tall trees, curved together, in order to create an elegant canopy over their chairs.

The room decor was loved and admired by, not only the bride and groom and their guests, but also the staff who were working at the Westin Resort. It was a pleasure to work with the bride and groom, Renee, Emmy & Aaron, Helena, and the countless others who made this wedding a success. Wedding Design Studio cannot wait to see the photos from this wedding!

Wedding Design Studio had another fabulous weekend designing the decor and floral for a Lauren &

Kris' wedding. The wedding took place at the gorgeous Swan-E-Set Bay Resort in Pitt Meadows and was photographed by local photographer, Erin Gilmore. The couple were a pleasure to work with. They were so sweet during all of their appointments, and we loved working with them. Lauren chose pure white and a color-block of hot pink, all showered in diamonds and crystals for her decor.

Lauren's bouquet was composed of peonies and cymbidium orchids with hot pink throats. Usually at this time of year, peonies are not available. But because of the late start to summer, we were able to create this stunning bouquet for her.

On the headtable, we featured our new hot pink raised ribbon fabric to center the bride and groom. It helped give a pop of color to feature the newlyweds. On all the chairs we used our couture white chair covers which hugged the curves of the chairs at Swan-E-Set, creating a sexy and stylish look. This last photo was taken by Andy Raddysh.

Erin & Maclean + Carlson Revisited

We had the privilege of designing another wedding for another one of Linda Carlson's children this past weekend. We met Linda seven years ago when her daughter Diana was getting married at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. They were such a wonderful family and we were so happy when we heard from her again this past fall for her son Maclean's wedding. Please enjoy the first set of photos from Jamie Delaine Photography from this past weekend at Grouse Mountain. We love the unique touches that they incorporated into their wedding, especially their Cookie Bar (a take on the popular Candy Bar) as the bride has a love of cookies. The bouquets also fit in with their love of Harry Potter with accents of pheasant feathers and curly willow cascading over peonies. A magical glow was developed by the use of towering cylinder vases with willow submerged to create a elegant forest feel. The entrance way was adorned with 10' tall willow trees arching together to create a tunnel for guests to enter the room. We look forward to working with Maclean and Erin in the future with their amazing company Hello Tomorrow Wedding Videography.

January 22, 2011 at Cecil Green ( UBC ). Vintage brocade table linens, brocade chair covers, glass gold chargers and matching brocade napkins. Fresh florals designed in eclectic assortment of tea pots, and candle light to create an inspiring room.

A Night of Hollywood Glam at Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa

Wedding Design Studio wanted to revisit Ildiko & Gary's wedding at Harrison Hot Springs. Gorgeous Bride, gorgeous Groom, gorgeous Venue. Ildiko's career as a model and actor made it easy to bring inspiration to the overall design. We loved Ildiko's initial idea of " Hollywood Glam". Ildiko's amazing personality made her a pleasure to work with on the coordination of her wedding design!!! Hollywood glam all the way!!!

I knew as soon as I walked into Wedding Design Studio and met Kim, that she would be my wedding designer!

There are so many details and decisions when it comes to planning a wedding that it's easy to become overwhelmed, especially in the beginning.

Kim and her team were so easygoing and fun to work with and took such a load off my wedding planning shoulders!

Kim has this natural flare and talent to take your ideas and design them into something even better than you imagined them.

Our guests raved about the decor and we still receive compliments months later.

She's kind of like the Martha Stewart of wedding decor.

Style & Seduction ~ Marc & Amanda Pg. 73

"Alice in Wonderland" inspired along with natural thunderstorms and the couple tattooed each others wedding bands at the reception. This really was a unique experience for the Wedding Design Studio team and their guests.

Displays of black twisted trees lined the aisle at the church along with the reception decor at Brock House which consisted of floral, staged furniture, fabric draping, candelabras, and an audience of black crows

WDS has been steadily preparing for this weekend's upcoming events. We're most excited about Saturday's event at the Vancouver Aquarium. This will be the first event of it's kind at the venue.

The couple will marry in front of the Beluga tank and enjoy a lavish feast on coral adorned tables. Every element of the ocean floor was used as inspiration.

Held at Whonnock lake, Breanne's vision consisted of a natural setting brought indoors. With keeping the colors neutral, you run the risk have having the design look drab. To avoid this, we used punches of bright orange to ignite a sense of excitement. Lush fabrics hung low created an intimate atmosphere in a large open setting.

We wanted to send you a quick email letting you know how blown away we were with your services. Our guests are still talking about the decor at our wedding and the majority of guests we've spoken to have said it was the most beautiful wedding they've ever attended.

When we first started looking for decor services we didn't bother contacting you because the featured weddings on your website appeared to be so high-end, we didn't think we could afford your services. Every wedding photo we saw of yours, was so overwhelmingly beautiful, we never believed ours could compare with the budget we were working with. We are so thankful we ran into you that day up at Westwood Plateau and decided to check out your warehouse. Immediately upon talking, you understood the vision we had and expanded it in ways we never could have thought of on our own. You seemed to intuitively understand what pieces of decor would make the most impact for the look we had in mind. But the most impressive part of it was that you were able to do it within our very small budget.

When we got to see the final product the day of our wedding, we were overwhelmed by the ambience you somehow created. All the little extras that we didn't plan for that you provided are so appreciated, as they added the final touches and detail that completed the room so perfectly. Cindy & Ray were another one of our fabulous couples who live afar. Together we collaborated, battling the Toronto time difference, to complete their dream!
The room, held at Swan e Set, featured a Tuscany style head table and three lounges, one of which was situated on the North Terrace. Their vision encompassed gun metal greys, bold accents and glistening diamonds.

We recently met up with Lisa Husick to discuss an upcoming venture we are collaborating on. While visiting, Lisa pleasantly surprised us with some shots from a wedding we worked on together this past summer at Rowena's Inn. I was lucky enough to coordinate this fabulous event!

There are no words that can truly do this wedding justice. The three day soiree commenced on Friday August 21st when the bridal party met for a welcome toast. Shortly after, the ladies left for a relaxing day at the spa followed by cosmo's in the lounge. A gentleman's day wouldn't be complete without a round of Golf at the World Renowned Sandpiper Golf Course.

That evening the couples came together for a formal reception set for an intimate group of twenty two. The dining room was set with fine linens and china and overlooked a private pool and lake, the backdrop for the evening.

Saturday morning and early afternoon consisted of lounging by the private pool while enjoying champagne and hour devours, before retreating to their rooms at 3:00 to prepare for the upcoming ceremony.

At 5:30 Saturday August 22, 2009, Seventy five lucky guests filtered through the immaculate set ceremony site, in awe of their surroundings. A cocktail reception and poolside after party awaited the anxious guests.

Kim and Lloyd wanted to set the tone for a relaxing and luxurious weekend away with their closest friends and family. The venue, decor and many little details we collaborate on brought her vision to life whole heatedly.

Thank you to Rowena's Inn and Lisa Husick for making the weekend run smoothly. Keep watch for more weddings with these fabulous vendors!

Congratulations Kim & Lloyd. We wish you a lifetime of happiness.

Education~ treating your venue as a canvas

This isn't the first time I've covered this issue but with 2010 brides now rolling in the door, I felt it was time to revisit the issue.

Just today I received an email from a bride.....

"PLEASE YOU HAVE TO TELL ME WHERE THIS VENUE IS! IT'S ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. I MUST HAVE IT FOR MY WEDDING!"

I quickly looked back to see which wedding she was referring to. I gasped when I saw! It was the most plain jane, gymnasium looking, old hall we've ever worked in. (No names mentioned) Now, don't get me wrong; I have nothing against venue's like this. I have to admit.. THEY ARE MY FAVORITE.

Yes you heard me correctly! Here's why:

You can create absolutely anything you want! With the proper help, and I mean professional help you can turn the ugliest frog into the most gorgeous princess. I promise.

Together, we transformed a regular old gymnasium into a posh downtown club!
Every single one of their guests mouths dropped when entering the room~ NEVER in their life had they seen a transformation quite like this!

Jana dreamed of a pink wedding since childhood. To counteract the girliness, we opted to go with bright hot pink hues, softened with crisp whites. Held at the Heritage Hall, the room was illuminated with pink theatrical lighting to achieve a dream-like effect. To finish off the design, the tables were adorned with elegant orchids.

Held at the Sheraton Wall Centre downtown Vancouver, WDS struck Gold with this fusion design. Behind the head table a custom build bamboo grid stole the show, adorned with fresh cymbidium orchids, Chinese paper lanterns and hanging votive candles. The guest tables played off the design concept with bamboo filled lampshades. Rich chocolate browns and smooth taupe's completed the look through high quality fabrics.

Here at WDS, we love original color schemes. While it's not to say that it's never been done, but how often do you seen rich plum and citrus green lining the reception hall. Held at Harrison Hot Spring's Resort, Ildiko & Gary wanted to fill their evening with true entertainment. They embraced an Old Hollywood theme, featuring deep champagnes, vintage creams and romantic reds.

To hold true to their theme, the design included an abundance of bling, an elevated guest of honor platform, classic roses, candlelight, ostrich feathers, vintage fabrics, a red carpet and a VIP lounge. To top it off, they flew in entertainment from Las Vegas to fill the room with old Rat Pack and Crooners toons.

Crystal & Miko dreamed about a plush, all white lounge! To achieve the look, set in Hycroft Manor's luscious walls, WDS utilized the white molding set in the vintage room.

Vases filled with gooey marshmallows, crystals and ostrich feathers were topped with stark white lamp shades. The center beams were bordered with over sized feather stands and round sectional lounges. The corner wall glowed with an up lit wall of vintage photos of the bride and groom.The entire room was dimmed and spot lit with theater lights.

Guests danced to the wee hours of the morning in this glorious cloud like lounge.

Working with a budget can be difficult for those of us with wild imaginations. Rachelle's vision included bold patterns, bright electric accents and phenomenal flow. To achieve this look, without robbing the bank, we focused on effectively utilizing damask accents with bright purple pockets of color. Rachelle searched the city for great bargain buys which would tie into her scheme. Complete, the room look striking!

Amanda & Mark, a beautiful couple, celebrated in a style they felt truly comfortable in. WDS with the help of Reflexion events, transformed the Brockhouse Restaurant into a Gothic Mansion.

This wedding was about the details, all intricately combined to create a unique feel.
Over sized black willow branches with hanging votive candles and weeping Amaranthus lined the ceremony aisle way. The bride & groom made an exquisite entrance following close behind a team of contortionists and fire breathers, stopping on a life size chess board for a photo op.
A man made forest of black arbutus frees and black crows surrounded the cocktail bar and the tent was graced with large gold candelabras drooping with dark floral combination. In the center, a vintage Gothic chandelier was hung to create a punch in the room.
The dance floor was surrounded by vintage furniture, and old Roman sculptures.

This wedding was truly a design masterpiece: Pictures can do no justice!

Sea breeze Head Table

Designed this past weekend for a Brockhouse client, Sharon envisioned a head table like no other. To complete the look we took elegant seaside colors of robins egg blue and soft champagne golds. The center of the table was dramatized with two over sized trees each with intricately placed orchid heads and hanging votive candles. The look was stunning are carried beautifully from day until night.

Held at the Shaugnessy Golf & Country Club, Meghan and Daryl had a challenge on their hands: their different styles. Meghan's vision was of a sophisticated vintage set room. Daryl on the other hand, wanted something that reflected their outdoor, relaxed nature.

To combine these visions, the tables were dressed in a simple vintage manner. Dark sage champagne overlays, vintage brocade chair covers and an over sized gold tree graced the room. Table numbers were dressed in sage moss and the sign in table featured pictures of the couple in retro fishing gear.

Eclectic taste can be difficult to work with at times. For Tina, her vision included modern patterns, with crisp whites, soft & hard accents and most of all... lots of bling!

To achieve this, we chose a black & white Damask runner on top of a white taffeta overlay. Centerpieces were alternated with elaborate candelabras with ostrich white feather toppers and low modern pomanders, each accented with a shabby sheek branch.
To soften the look, cylinder vases with filled with feathers & crystals, and illuminated with a floating puck candle.

A princess like dance floor and two lounge areas completed with look and wow's guests through an event to remember.

Held at the luxurious Rockwater Secret Cove Resort, Brian & Shanda's day was a breathtaking abyss of natural surroundings. Deep Mocha's, soothing sages, moss, river rock and delicate orchids adorned the venue.

After a grueling day of set up the design team was delighted to join Shanda & Brian in the celebrations.

WDS wowed the Italian Cultural Center crowd, again, this past weekend. Lori & Johnny a fabulous couple, wanted an elegant affair with soft hues and whimsical fabric draping.
They accomplished this through alternating centerpieces and placing a large chunk of their budget into room decor and Centerpieces as opposed to linens and floral.

"Thank you so much for the absolutely amazing decor! When Johnny and I looked into the room it literally took our breath away! We have received endless complements on the decor! Our relatives in Italy are still talking about it. Fabio, the manager at ICC, said in all the years he has worked there, our wedding was the best he's ever seen. Thank God we have lots of pictures of the decor!"
